After an emotional roller coaster of a year, packed with presidential elections, culture clashes, loss of great artists, and social media shutdowns (and complete revamps), I think it's safe to say we're all ready to turn the page to a new chapter.
So, what do we need to leave behind, and what do we need to gravitate towards for a refreshing and fashionable start to 2017?
This year, we're keeping our statement earrings, cheeky pins and well-made basics. The plan: bend the norms and by all means, do not try that hard. It's all about effortless - beauty routines that stay under ten minutes, easy to care for fabrics and must have accessories that quickly complete your look. We're keeping the highlighters, exfoliating more and embracing texture in our hair.
We're ditching overdone hair styles, lingerie-style street clothes, mega matte finishes and septum jewelry. Chokers, crushed velvet, platforms and pastel hair have yet to be determined. Novelty purses are trying to have a moment, but for a mom-on-the-go, they're too impractical and for that reason, we'll have to pass.
And don't think we've forgotten this past year's scandals, drama, and fashion fails. We'll be watching the industry closely - but not nearly as closely as we'll be watching underground designers, who we're anticipating having a come-up year.
